Buddies volunteer

What You'll Do:

We provide regular support groups and activity sessions for siblings to meet other brothers and sisters of children with life-limiting illnesses or those who have experienced bereavement. The service is hosted in a variety of settings including our Buddies hut in the grounds or trips off site. These take place in the School holidays with at least one activity taking place each school holiday. Volunteers would need to be available at these times.

The groups are often divided between juniors (aged 5-11) and teens (12-18). For both groups it is an opportunity to have fun together and enjoy activities and outings.

Brothers and sisters of a child who uses or has used our services are eligible to receive sibling support from the Buddies group.
We require volunteers to come and assist at these activities, working alongside our buddies’ co-ordinator. Much of the role involves taking care of the needs of the children while they are at an event and also joining in and assisting with the activity.

Staff are always on had these events to provide any emotional support to any young people who may need this on the day.

Core responsibilities

The responsibilities for each event will differ slightly depending on what event/activity is taking place.

•Assisting the buddies co-ordinator with the overall running of the buddies’ events.

These responsibilities include:
•Helping to set up the event
•Registering and welcoming buddies on arrival and taking any necessary forms
•Collating evaluation forms and clearing up after events
•Helping with mealtimes and other buddies’ needs
•Participating and assisting in the event itself

Why You'll Love It:

You will get to take part in some fun activities with the young people. Feel part of a team of volunteers in this role and know that you are contributing to the young people having a fun day.

What You'll Learn:

You will learn team working and gain experience of working with young people.

What We're Looking For:

Enthusiaistic and motivated volunteers who are willing to come along and make these activities fun. If you have experience of working/ volunteering with children previously that would be prefered.
