Appropriate Adult's safeguard the rights of and provide support to children and vulnerable adults when they are detained in police custody. We work within PACE to deliver support, advice and assistance to those being detained and interviewed by the police.
This is an excellent opportunity to experience a unique side of the criminal justice system and to provide advocacy and support to those who need it most during a challenging time of their lives. The role works with children, vulnerable adults, police staff as well as health and social care professionals.
Alongside extensive training in the appropriate adult role you will learn about PACE, police detention processes and the criminal justice system. You will also elarn about how best to work with young people as well as developing an understanding of various mental health issues or learning difficulties. We also offer additional training on a wide variety of relevant topics such as gangs & county lines, child criminal exploitation, working with speech & language issues and autism-specific learning.
Someone who has good interpersonal skills and a keen desire to tackle a role which can be challenging or complex at times. We value reliability, proactive-ness and a keen sense of wanting to work with and help others. No prior experience in advocacy is necessary just an interest in learning.
