Volunteer Health Champion

What You'll Do: 

This Health Champion role can include:

*Attending information stands in the community as part of our team and 
talking to local residents
• Undertaking one-to-one interviews with those who have requested it (by 
phone or in person) 
• Supporting focus groups or community meetings
• Delivering blood pressure checks and sharing information on maintaining a 
healthy heart

What You'll Learn: 

As a Health Champion, you’ll develop essential skills such as effective communication, active listening, and community engagement. You'll gain experience conducting one-to-one interviews, supporting focus groups, and working with a wide range of individuals from Islington's diverse communities. In addition, you’ll learn about different health and care issues affecting the borough, improve your understanding of how health services operate. This role will not only enhance your ability to work with people from various backgrounds but also provide you with valuable experience in public health and community advocacy.

What We're Looking For: 

We are seeking volunteers who are friendly, patient, and confident when it comes to engaging with new people. We welcome individuals who are reliable, comfortable working independently or as part of a team, and open to learning new skills. Since we engage with a variety of ethnic communities, language skills are highly valued—especially in Arabic, Amharic, Bulgarian, Eritrean, French, Greek, Kurdish, Portuguese, Somali, Spanish, Turkish, and Tigrinya. If you’re passionate about supporting your community and want to help improve health services, this role is perfect for you.
