Low cost fresh produce community shop project

What You'll Do:

Volunteers will be assisting with a Hackney Council supported community initiative, to get affordable fresh fruit and vegetables to one of three locations and helping to establish long term local community markets. Volunteers will help at various stages, from preparing the wholesale surplus fresh produce ready for delivery to three locations (stage 1 Market Day prep), through to helping at the community markets on Market Day (stage 2 Market Day).

Why You'll Love It:

This is a community based project helping local people who you'll meet and help. Our ambitin is to create a market where people not only come to collect the fresh fruit and vegetables they have ordered online, but also stop and talk to friends and neighbours along with yourselves. You will get to know them by sight as well as talk with them over the time you're there. You'll be working alongside local community workers and learn about what else happens in the centres and areas. London can feel large an anonymous but it is based on a collection of villages of which these are part. There will be opportunities to talk about recipe ideas, food cultures and health benefits of fresh food.

What You'll Learn:

You can be involved in many of the stages of the preparation, setting up and helping out of a community focossed project, learn about the fresh produce markets and local seasonal crops and the health benefits of good eating.

What We're Looking For:

Team spirit, enthusiam, adaptability, initiative, friendliness
