Fight for Sight
Our mission as an organisation is to champion brilliant minds and bold ideas that drive the prevention, treatment, and cure of vision loss. We invest in sustainable scientific and social change initiatives that bring meaningful progress within reach, ensuring that everyone affected by vision impairment can look forward to a future filled with opportunity and improved eye health.
ABOUT US:

We are the UK’s leading charity funding world‑class research to better understand, diagnose, prevent, and treat vision loss. Our purpose is to ensure that everyone can enjoy the best possible eye health and has equal opportunities, regardless of vision impairment. Through our investment in cutting‑edge scientific research and meaningful social‑change initiatives, we are committed to saving sight and improving the lives of people affected by vision loss.

We raise funds through individual donations, community and challenge fundraising, volunteer support, and partnerships. These resources enable us to drive pioneering research, accelerate breakthroughs in treatment, prevent avoidable sight loss, and ensure that life after vision loss is not a lonely one. Our goal is a future where scientific innovation and social progress work together to change lives for everyone impacted by sight conditions.

WHY OUR WORK MATTERS:

Sight loss is a growing challenge, with someone in the UK losing their sight every six minutes and only 1.2% of public medical research funding directed toward eye research, leaving major gaps in prevention and treatment. With 2.7 million people expected to be living with vision loss by 2030, and people with vision impairment being three times more likely to experience loneliness and isolation, the need for progress is urgent. Our work addresses this by funding pioneering research and supporting initiatives that improve lives and reduce the impact of sight loss across the UK .

OUR VALUES:
Our values guide everything we do. Together, we are bold in pursuing innovative solutions to vision loss, tenacious in driving progress through world‑class research, informed by evidence and the experiences of those affected by sight conditions, and optimistic about creating a future where everyone can enjoy the best possible eye health. These principles shape our decisions, our partnerships, and our unwavering commitment to saving sight and changing lives .

THINGS WE ARE PROUD OF:
We are proud to have supported Sound Without Sight in achieving international recognition by winning the Social & Culture category at the International Sound Awards 2025, demonstrating the impact of our capacity‑building approach. WHAT WE LOOK FOR IN OUR PEOPLE:

We look for volunteers who embody our values—boldtenaciousinformed, and optimistic—and who are motivated to make a meaningful difference for people affected by vision loss. We value volunteers who bring enthusiasm, inclusivity, and a willingness to learn, and who contribute positively to our mission by working collaboratively and embracing our purpose‑driven culture .

HOW WE ARE DIFFERENT:

We stand out by combining world‑class scientific research with meaningful social change, addressing both the medical causes of vision loss and the lived experience of people who are blind or vision impaired. We fund the brilliant minds and bright ideas driving breakthroughs in prevention, diagnosis and treatment, while supporting initiatives that improve day‑to‑day life and create equal opportunities. Guided by our values—bold, tenacious, informed, optimistic—we take an evidence‑driven, people‑centred approach that ensures our work is both innovative and deeply grounded in real needs.
