Women for Refugee Women
A world where women no longer need to seek asylum because they are safe from persecution and have equal power and access to opportunities.
ABOUT US:

Women for Refugee Women is a small charity which supports women who are seeking safety from persecution, including rape and other torture. We work in three main ways: to support and empower women seeking asylum through creative and educational activities; to communicate with wide audiences by telling the stories of refugee women through the media, events and arts projects; and to inform policy makers and politicians about how to build a fairer asylum process.

WHY OUR WORK MATTERS:

At Women for Refugee Women, women who are seeking safety in the UK find solidarity and support. Our work is authentic because it is shaped and led by women who have personal experience of seeking asylum.

Our activities provide a space where women can connect with one another and develop their confidence and skills. We ensure women have access to the specialist advice and resources they need to understand their situations and rebuild their lives.

Many women in our network want to use their experiences to challenge the injustices they have faced. We believe that we can make changes to the asylum process and within our society if women seeking asylum are heard and believed, and so we work to amplify women’s voices and creativity to wide audiences.

Our campaigns are bold and creative. We focus on the systemic injustices affecting the lives of women in our network, such as detention and destitution. From participation in research, to meeting MPs, to stitching banners, women who have sought asylum can bring their diverse skills and experience to these campaigns in order to bring about the changes they would like to see.

We are uniquely placed at the intersection between the women’s and migration sectors, acting as a bridge between these two movements and ensuring that women seeking asylum are included and heard.
