Peter Bedford Housing Association (PBHA) is a Cooperative and Community Benefit Society with charitable status which works with socially excluded adults in London (North East). A pioneer of supported housing, we have been inspiring brighter futures for over forty years.
We work with those who are homeless, those with disabilities, those with mental health challenges, and those with learning difficulties and/or additional needs, providing housing and support. Not only this, but we also empower people to learn, access work, and discover their creative talents. Our work enables people to lead independent lives and to move on.
Our work is essential for socially-excluded communities across the North-East of London. We are able to provide safe and comfortable housing for those who have experiences with street homelessness, as well as a sense of community and belonging. We genuinely believe in the potential in each and every tenant, and look to support them to find and maintain a life that is fulfilling and meaningful to them. Our tenants have been supported to develop employability skills and find their first jobs, improve their wellbeing and self-care, and have gone on to live independent lives in homes of their own.
We look for people who share in our vision; people who believe that every person should be valued and receive the support they need to live the life they deserve. Peter Bedford staff and volunteers are compassionate people who use their individual talents and passions to give back to those most in need. In return, they gain a real sense of accomplishment and reward for their help, and are offered development and opportunities of their own.
As a smaller, grassroots organisation, we really bring a personal touch to all of our work. We are person-centred through and through and centre our work and initiatives directly around the wants and needs of tenants. Over the past year we have introduced a new working group for anti-social behaviour, requested by tenants, have increased the frequency of our tenant conferences, and have begun running coach trips again - just a few of the ways we have responded. Staff have real connections with tenants and participants from their entry to departure, and know their interests, passions, and achievements. We make sure to celebrate the lives of those we have lost through our annual tenant memorial service in our shared gardens, and run regular groups events across all our hubs.
