Felix Food Factory Volunteer

What You'll Do:

Felix Food Factory Volunteers play a key role in helping prepare, repackage, jarring, dehydrating and freezing surplus food items into more shelf-stable, ready-to-eat products (jams, dried fruits, preserves etc.). Through this food-production work, Felix will be able to accept more seasonal gluts of fruit and vegetables from our suppliers, extending the quantity, shelf life and variety of the products we redistribute to our community organisations.

Volunteering with Felix's Food Factory will largely consist of the following responsibilities:

  • Lifting and unloading fresh produce
  • Washing fruits and vegetables by hand
  • Chopping, slicing, peeling, de-seeding, de-stemming fruits and vegetables
  • Weighting ingredients ready for cooking or re-packing
  • Loading our dehydrators and blast freezers with trolleys of food
  • Helping with jam and chutney production
  • Labelling product packaging
  • Loading crates of products ready for delivery
Why You'll Love It:

As a Food Factory Volunteer, you’ll be part of one of Felix’s newest (opened Oct. 2025) and most innovative projects, helping to transform fresh surplus food into more shelf-stable products ready to be redistributed to our community organisations across London. This is hands‑on, meaningful work where you’ll join an imaginative, dynamic and passionate team dedicated to reducing food waste as well as maximising the value and variety of the food rescued.

What You'll Learn:

You’ll gain practical experience in a food‑production environment. You'll also learn about food‑safety and hygiene standards within this environment, and how food can be preserved correctly to extend it's shelf life. You’ll also build confidence working in a fast‑paced team committed to tackling both food waste and food insecurity.

What We're Looking For:

We’re looking for volunteers who are comfortable with physical, hands‑on work, including lifting, repetitive preparation tasks and standing for extended periods. You should be able to follow hygiene and food‑safety guidelines and be willing to wear PPE while working on the factory 'floor'.
